The Golden Mile, the most luxurious and privileged residential area in Marbella, surrounded by beautiful lush greenery stretches along the 5km splendid maritime promenade from the entrance of Puerto Banus to the Pirulí, the emblem of the city of Marbella, covered with copper plates. Located on the beachside, the Golden Mile is home to the most desirable, intimate villas with direct access to the beach whose residents are mainly accomplished politicians and successful businessmen who have owned their homes for generations. Around these magnificent mansions, iconic and sought after resorts such as the Marbella Club Hotel and the Puente Romano resort contribute to the entertainment of the beachside, being the pinnacle of luxury living.
Immersed in a Californian atmosphere with its abundant palm trees lining the main boulevard paired with its extremely favourable microclimate, the Golden Mile is often compared to Beverly Hills, the international symbol of the ultimate in luxury, giving way to a unique lifestyle.
This very tranquil area extends into the hills, where sumptuous villas of the most affluent foreign families were also built within exclusive neighbourhoods such as Sierra Blanca, Nagüeles, Marbella Hill Club and Cascada de Camoján, offering the highest standards of luxury and privacy with stunning sea views.
Lifestyle on Golden Mile
Peaceful, exclusive and yet close to all amenities, the Golden Mile offers only the best whether it be lifestyle or the property market. Both the beachside and the inland immerse each property in an abundance of vegetation while providing a top-class luxury level.
Indeed, the Golden Mile is considered as the most privileged area of Marbella and is surrounded by beautiful, lively resorts where sophisticated tourists and locals stop for a few hours to enjoy all the amenities they have to offer. A stunning spot that cannot be missed is the legendary Puente Romano resort, on the beachside, full of fancy stylish restaurants and bars such as Sea Grill, Nobu, Leña, La Plaza and Bibo, where tasting the famous and Michelin-starred cuisine of the chef Dani Garcia is a must.
Prominent amenities and visitors
Some of the prominent international designer labels run shops and luxury retail outlets in this neighbourhood, making it one of the greatest shopping areas in the city. Not to mention the fanciest nightclubs and bars, many of which are open from dusk until dawn and seek to offer quality by finding a point of difference. These include the entertaining Mamzel, the swanky Olivia Valère or even the exclusive Supper Club within the Puente Romano resort.
Over the years, the Golden Mile has also been a magnet for film stars and world-famous personalities, being the epicentre of glamour in the most desirable destination of Europe. Hugh Grant, Eva Longoria, Jason Statham or even Michelle Obama are among the celebrities who have fallen in love with it.
Beach clubs and coastline
Surrounded by lush vegetation and unspoiled nature, the Golden Mile is also the place to enjoy exclusive beach clubs such as Trocadero Petit Playa or the beach club of Marbella Club Hotel. Both border the coast and enliven this luxurious residential area full of high-standing properties all year round. Unlike the ostentatious Puerto Banús, the environment is residential and familial, with high purchasing power and discretion, teaming with sportsmen running along the coast.
To enjoy with the family in a more casual atmosphere, the area has no shortage of cafés with quiet terraces where it is pleasant to sit and have a drink throughout the day. Therefore, the Golden Mile is not only a location but above all the pinnacle of luxury living that you can’t get tired of with its 6km of coastline in which you discover its unique lifestyle at every inch you walk.
It all began in 1954 when Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe decided to build the iconic Marbella Club Hotel on the shore, which used to be a simple fishing village. Gradually, it became a prestigious place where affluent people started to stay and enjoy its amenities. As a result, many of them decided to build properties around this exclusive place, gradually turning the area into the Golden Mile. Before the whole development of the area, the Golden Mile was the main N-340 coast road whose origins date back to Roman times and where vestiges are still to be seen in Puente Romano.
The prestige of the Golden Mile was then raised in the 1970s with the construction of the Al Riyad Palace and Mosque, which hosted the Saudi King Fahd every summer. King Fahd subsequently invested heavily in Real Estate, which led his friends in the Gulf States to follow him in the idea of establishing a summer residence in Marbella.
Since then, the Golden Mile has flourished and fancy restaurants have begun to accumulate to recreate a little traditional village within the Golden Mile, including the Puente Romano complex. The latter has become the epitome of luxury living, housing a vibrant nightlife, world-class cuisine, endless shopping and prestigious hotels. Nowadays, the Golden Mile keeps offering a sophisticated and private lifestyle maintaining its statue of benchmark for luxury peaceful living and fine dining.
Areas in the Golden Mile
Property market on Golden Mile
The Golden Mile is subdivided into 3 distinguishable districts, each one offering luxury properties with different features and a slight price difference, but it’s all a matter of taste about which sub-area is most desirable. However, it is worth noting that the seaside area is particularly attractive, especially around the Marbella Club and the top-class Puente Romano complex, which is therefore considered the epicentre of the Golden Mile, where prices are keeping pace with the constantly rising demand.
