On 8th and 9th November 2025, Marbella will host the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship, one of the most prestigious sporting events on the global calendar. This will be the first time Spain hosts this championship, and the city was chosen for its unparalleled natural setting, excellent infrastructure and a lifestyle that combines wellness, luxury and quality living.

More than 6,000 athletes—both elite and amateurs—from over 100 countries participate, solidifying Marbella as a global destination for high-level sports tourism.
Before becoming a global championship host, Marbella was already established on the European triathlon scene as part of the IRONMAN 70.3 circuit.
The first edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Marbella took place in April 2018, with Puerto Banús serving as the main hub for both the swim start and the finish line.
Since then, the race has been held annually —except in 2020 due to the pandemic— confirming its status as a consolidated and much-anticipated sporting event. Each edition attracts thousands of athletes who test their endurance on the demanding and scenic course that climbs towards the mountain village of Ojén.
Over the years, Marbella has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most prestigious IRONMAN 70.3 venues, thanks to its ideal climate, stunning natural landscapes, and the city’s distinctive atmosphere of exclusivity and lifestyle appeal.
A Route that Blends Sea, Mountains and Natural Beauty
The IRONMAN 70.3 competition consists of three segments: 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running. Marbella’s course is truly unique:
- Swim (1.9km): Held in the crystal-clear waters of Puerto Banús. An iconic location to kick off this demanding race.
- Bike (90km): Athletes will ride a course that ascends into the Sierra de las Nieves, passing through picturesque villages such as Ojén and Coín, with nearly 1,800 metres of elevation gain.
- Run (21.1km): The final segment runs along Marbella’s seafront promenade, skirting the Mediterranean, with the finish line in Puerto Banus
You can see the complete route on the official website of Ayuntamiento de Marbella.
This course offers an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators alike, with dreamlike landscapes and an ideal autumn climate.

The IRONMAN’s Impact on Marbella and Its Global Projection
Hosting this world championship will have a very positive economic impact on the city. It is estimated to generate around €60 million in direct and indirect income, benefiting the hospitality, dining, retail and service sectors.
Moreover, the IRONMAN 70.3 reinforces Marbella’s image as a vibrant, safe and modern city, capable of hosting major international events while preserving its Andalusian charm. The media visibility of the event will place the Costa del Sol in the spotlight of elite global sports tourism.
