Marbella’s 15th Condesa Villa Padierna Golf Tournament at Los Flamingos

Los Flamingos Golf Club is one of three courses set around the Villa Padierna Palace Hotel in Benahavis, Estepona, near Marbella. It’s an area of prime real estate at just a fifty-minute drive from Malaga airport. The first of the three courses to be built, Los Flamingos has been the scene of various competitions, such as the European Seniors and the Spanish Women’s over several years. This summer, for the fifteenth time, it will host its most prestigious annual tournament – the Condesa Villa Padierna, originally initiated by the Countess of Villa Padierna.

The contest on 6 August, which attracts golfers from all over Spain, is both the highlight of the hotel’s golfing calendar and a landmark event for the area. It will be followed by a prize-giving ceremony and a cocktail, with the entry price of eighty-five euros including the latter, plus shared buggy and green fee.

The 71-par course spans 5714 metres, and was designed, like the other two, by accomplished Spanish architect and landscaping expert, Antonio Garcia Garrido, continuing the Tuscan styling of the hotel. Elevated tees provide splendid vistas over the sea as far as Gibraltar and even Africa, and glimpses of the quality real estate that is a frequent feature of the luxury resorts of Marbella. The eighteen-hole course is well maintained, with each hole sporting a different kind of tree, with cypresses, olives and pines among them. The fairways feature statues, marble bridges and faux Roman columns, so playing or attending events here is a memorable experience.

The parkland contains several lakes, around which the course meanders, with the Arroyo Del Taraje especially visible around the 1st and 10th holes, ending in a lake that serves as a natural border. The attractiveness of the 10th, in particular, is enhanced by a large undulating green that is protected by a lake and bunkers.

As for the course itself, the ample greens are set off beautifully by the white marble chips of the bunkers. The slender fairways that shape the first half, close to the hotel, are more challenging than those on the rest of the course, while the grass is mostly Bermuda on the fairways with Ray grass at some holes, and Penncross used for tees and greens.

Of the other two courses on the complex, Alferini Golf Club is another top-quality championship course, while the last to be added, Tranmores, is an 18-hole executive course on which to perfect your short game. All, of course, offer amazing scenery. Facilities at the clubhouse are excellent, and spa treatments at the hotel include the Countess de Villa Padierna, to continue the theme of the tournament.

For golf lovers, this is a desirable spot to rent or buy a property, and the excellent real estate on offer makes a solid investment. With the amenities and life of central Marbella close by, Los Flamingos is a popular choice with visitors, golfers, and investors alike.
