Puerto Banús, Europe ’s most exclusive marina

Any discerning visitor to the Costa del Sol will be aware of Puerto Banús, the prestigious marina in Nueva Andalucía to the south west of Marbella, at the end of the lively Golden Mile.

“Marbella, Spain – March, 22nd, 2012: Original Mercedes 300 SL Roadster from 1957. parked in marina Puerto Banus in Marbella, Spain. Mercedes is celebrating 60 years of SL this year, since the model was first introduced as a race car in 1952.”

Its full name is Puerto José Banús, after the local property developer who built it in 1970, envisaging it as a playground for the rich. His vision of the port as a place to moor or hire luxury yachts has been fully realised, and embraced by the upmarket clientele that it now attracts. Add to that the exclusive shopping outlets and restaurants, and a sandy beach nestling in a cove with safe shallow waters and a playground, and it’s not surprising that real estate in the vicinity is much sought-after. This is where Engel & Völkers Marbella can help, with expert local knowledge.

All this comes at a price, of course, with mooring costs for vessels increasing by twenty per cent since 2018. Still, it’s a price that Puerto Banús users may be willing to pay, in view of all the facilities clustered around the port, its proximity to central Marbella itself, and the opportunities for investment in quality real estate. The fact that it now costs 4,289 euros a day to dock a boat of fifty-five metres in the marina means that it has become the most costly port in Europe, pushing Ibiza Magna into second place, and three Italian ports further down the price scale. This tends to add to its exclusivity, and with fifteen hectares of space for nine hundred and fifteen moorings, Puerto Banús will still have plenty of appeal for yacht owners.

As well as the superb amenities around the port, the upmarket prices do, of course, fit with the luxury real estate in this part of Marbella, which only increases its desirability to wealthy visitors and would-be residents. With its local offices, Engel & Völkers Marbella has the experience and expertise to help and advise anyone looking for property in the area.
