Anyone looking at luxury real estate opportunities around Marbella’s lively and prestigious Golden Mile, where your local property experts Engel & Völkers are based, will have discovered the atmospheric old town. Its buildings used stone from the quarry near the exclusive and stylish suburb of Nagüeles, but nowadays the quarry’s main function is hosting the famous Starlite Festival, a month of music and culture that takes place every summer.
The Starlite Festival at the Cantera de Nagüeles is not only Spain’s top entertainment festival, but is billed as the most important boutique festival in Europe, so what more appropriate setting could there be than the party town of Marbella? Its staging within the quarry’s sixty metre-high rock walls makes for a unique sound and a special atmosphere. The stage set is never the same two years running, and the fact that festival-goers arrive by shuttle bus just adds to the fun, in a city famous for fun. VIPs sit in elevated bubble-boxes, where they are served drinks, and the whole thing is planned meticulously.
Performers in previous years have included Elton John, Lionel Richie, Tom Jones, Enrique Iglesias and the Pet Shop Boys. This year, with more than one stage, fans can look forward to the likes of the Beach Boys, Roger Hodgson (of Supertramp), Kool & the Gang, Sting, John Legend, Malu and Jessie J. Diana Krall and Jamie Cullen will cool things down, while Juan Peña & Adosvelas provide a traditional touch, and many more will appear in a series of concerts between 11 July and 24 August 2019. Look back with tribute acts like Abba the Concert and God Save the Queen, or dance the night away with a variety of DJs – this is Marbella, after all!
The venue’s shape is like an amphitheatre, providing perfect acoustics, and with a capacity of just three thousand, it gives fans a unique opportunity to catch their favourites away from a huge and impersonal stadium. It also benefits the artists, who can see their audience and build up a rapport with them. Even better, when not performing, they can be seen amongst the crowds, watching other acts or enjoying a drink. So this is truly a boutique event with a personal touch that gives punters an experience to remember.
This is a concept that embraces more than music. Kiosks with all kinds of snacks, pizzas, burgers, and of course tapas, will please the whole family, while chill-out zones bring a little respite. To go a little more upmarket, the Starlite Restaurant offers diners a wide choice. Retail therapy is covered by a shopping area with twenty-one stalls, and it’s even possible to arrange parties or corporate events. Starlite is also fully accessible, of course.
Marbella is as well known for its night life as for its upmarket residential areas, and for many owners, both were major factors in their decision to buy or to invest here. The friendly staff at Engel & Völkers are always happy to give advice on the luxury property market, and to help you to realise your dreams of a great life style.
